7 Epic Moments from the 2024 #DragonRide
Over 4,500 people signed up to join us today for the 20th anniversary edition of the Dragon Ride, from first-timers to experienced Dragon Slayers. It was an epic day of cycling in Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons), with our riders taking on some of the UK’s toughest climbs. We’ve put together a round up of our top 7 moments from the day:
Fire Finish Line
The finish line feeling is unparalleled, and this year it was hotter than ever. The 20th anniversary edition featured a fiery finish line that truly put the “fire” in the Dragon Ride, making every finisher’s arrival a blazing triumph.
Dog Supporters
Nothing warms the heart quite like our enthusiastic canine cheerleaders. The dog supporters of the Dragon Ride were back out in force this year, wagging their tails off and bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. A big round of applause for these photogenic pups!
20th Anniversary Touches
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Dragon Ride, we added some extra special touches to this years event. Previous participants were reunited, sharing stories of Dragon Rides gone by. All participants received commemorative medals, and the event village featured special celebratory décor.
Feed Station Potatoes
One of the quirkier elements of the event—and a firm fan favourite—are the iconic Dragon Ride potatoes. Located at each feed station, these salty goodies kept participants fuelled and motivated right through to the finish line.
Slayer Celebrations
All of our 3239 Dragon Slayers were heroes today, enjoying well-deserved celebrations in the event village. With live music, food, beverages, and post-ride massages, the atmosphere was one of joy and camaraderie – We hope your legs aren’t too sore tomorrow!
Heart-warming Fundraising
The heart-warming efforts of our participants in raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support stood out as a true event day highlight. Raising over £190,000 (and counting) for people affected by cancer, the event had a significant impact beyond the epic cycling itself.
Stunning Welsh Scenery
Last but certainly not least, the breath taking Welsh scenery provided its typically stunning backdrop for the Dragon Ride. Riders traversed some of the most beautiful landscapes the UK has to offer, from rolling hills and lush valleys to picturesque villages. The natural beauty of the route provided participants with a constant source of inspiration and motivation to reach the finish line.
A huge congratulations to all who took part, and to everyone who helped make the 20th anniversary edition one of the best Dragon Rides yet. Here’s to many more years of slaying the Dragon!
